Sealants
Dental sealants bond to the outside of teeth, providing a covering that protects the chewing surfaces of teeth from decay. Dental sealants are typically added to the teeth in the back of the mouth referred to as the premolars and molars. Dental sealants have the potential to prevent even more expensive and potentially invasive dental procedures down the line such as cavity fillings and crowns. Sealants also help prevent the formation of plaque as well as demineralization of the teeth as a result of acid exposure from bacteria living in hard-to-reach deep pits and fissures of back teeth. Ideally, the dental sealants will be applied to the teeth of youngsters for ongoing protection in the years ahead. However, some adults will also benefit from the use of sealants.
